Dynamic[]

Tomás and Mary were a couple for a short while and even engaged for a week. Mary even put up with his abusive behavior, since their relationship would bring help to her struggling country. However, their relationship ended with his death.

History[]

Early History[]

Tomás was the illegitimate son of the King of Portugal, John III. He was also married, but his wife died of the influenza. Mary Stuart grew up in Scotland and France though out her whole life. When she was 16 she was moved back to France to wed the Dauphin of France. However, she broke their countries agreement when her own country was in danger and a new alliances was needed.

Season 1[]

Kissed[]

Tomás, the bastard son of the king of Portugal, has come to court to negotiate a trade with King Henry. He has also been courting Greer in the meantime, which she reveals to Mary, Lola, Kenna and Aylee during a picnic.

The same afternoon, Tomás and Greer are strolling when they see Mary trying to fetch a ball from a tree. Greer introduces them and the two start bantering back and forth. Mary later asks Greer what kind of a trade deal Tomás is negotiating, and when she learns that he needs timber, she gets an idea.

Mary takes Tomás to a secluded spot away from court so as not to be overheard, and proposes a trade deal between herself and him. She explains her predicament at court: Scotland is in trouble and King Henry refuses to help. Tomás is intrigued and the two decide on another meeting that afternoon.

Tomás and Mary go on horseback to the countryside, where Tomás proposes to Mary. Mary is confused, as she thought that he and Greer were an item, but he admits he has set his sights on her. Mary initially declines because she is already promised to another, but once Tomás assures her that he has been legitimised for the Portuguese throne and will send troops to Scotland if they wed, Mary is torn. She asks Tomás to be discreet while she considers his proposal.

That night during a banquet, Tomás whisks Mary away to dance with him after commanding the musicians to play music from his home country. They shock the crowd with a provocative dance, which Mary reluctantly participates in. When they're done, Mary scolds Tomás for not being discreet enough and runs after a saddened Greer.

A few days later, Mary comes to Tomás's chambers late at night to inform him that she accepts his proposal. Things begin moving very quickly as eight companies of men set sail for Scotland the very next day, bringing Mary the much-needed aid her country needed.

Hearts and Minds

Although Mary has accepted Tomás' proposal, she requested it remain a secret while her release from her marriage to Francis was negotiated. But days later during an archery tournament between Tomás and Prince Francis, Tomás publicly offers his winning rose to Mary. He then asks if it was inappropriate, even though he knows it was.

The next day, Tomás is informed by one of his spies Mary has begun a dalliance with Francis. He summons her to his chambers and informs her that he knows. Tomás then proceeds to preset Mary with her whipping boy - a person he would hit across the face when he was displeased with Mary. To prove his point, he strikes the man across the face in front of her. He warns Mary not to do anything foolish like that again and walks away, leaving Mary afraid.

At The Michaelmas Banquette, Tomás becomes annoyed when he sees Mary talking to Simon Westbrook, the English ambassador who is set to be executed for treason. He wraps his rough hands around her waist and callously reminds her of their engagement, earning the ire of both Sebastian and Francis. The two brothers walk up to them and get Tomás to back off.

After coming to the conclusion that Tomás was the one who caused slaughter of Frenchmen in order to further his own agenda, Francis and Sebastian follow him and his servant to the woods, where they learn that Tomás was indeed behind everything. A fight breaks out and when Tomás nearly kills the Prince of France, he is struck down by Francis himself.
