Left Behind
"The real warning is that there are people who matter more and people who matter less. Those who will be remembered and those who will be forgotten."
Sebastian

Synopsis[]

The Heretics Threaten Mary and Bash Fights to Uncover the Truth
An attempt to scare Mary causes Queen Catherine to take drastic measures to make sure the guilty party is caught. Francis, aware of Bash and Mary's growing attraction, turns to Olivia. Bash ventures into the woods to pay his debt - the human sacrifice the pagans demand -- and returns with blood on his hands. Meanwhile, Kenna comes clean with the girls about her affair with the King, to a mixed response.

Plot[]

Sebastian has a dream about the events of the previous night. He wakes up in sweat and panic. Meanwhile, Mary wakes up next to a necklace on her pillow.

Chosen - 3 Francis n Olivia

Choose me.

As Francis is wrapping up business with a few courtiers, he is approached by Olivia. Olivia admits that she hasn't seen much of him lately, and wonders if it's because she confessed her feelings to him. He praises her honesty, and admits that he wishes others would extend him the same courtesy. Olivia reminds him that she's an option, a certain and uncomlicated one, as opposed to Mary.

Everyone at court gathers in the courtyard to welcome King Henry back. Queen Catherine is walking with Olivia and again encourages her to continue pursuing Francis. On their way, the ladies tease Kenna about dressing to impress a special someone, but Mary defends Kenna. However, Mary also warns Kenna to proceed with caution with the King.

When Mary sees Bash, she runs up to him and inquires him as to why he left a gift on her pillow. He asks what gift, and she shows him the necklace. He claims that it wasn't a gift from him, but he recognizes the necklace. Later, Mary sees Francis and tries to talk to him, but he keeps being cold to her.

The brothers fighting.

The carriage turns up and King Henry steps out of it. A pleased Kenna is about to go and embrace him, but she sees that Diane de Poitiers steps out of the carriage right after. Kenna stumbles back in shock and confusion. Bash pulls Mary and Francis aside and informs them what the necklace means. It is a Pagan Necklace which was left on Mary's pillow, meaning that the Pagans have chosen Mary to be sacrificed. Francis spits a few comments laced with venom at Bash. When Mary leaves to inquire the servants if they've seen anyone place the necklace on her pillow, Bash asks Francis why he's so angry, but Francis hides his true rage behind another passive-aggressive comment.

"There are too many secrets between us, brother. Far too many."
Prince Francis

An angry Kenna bursts into King Henry's room and questions why he brought Diane back. He retorts that Diane will be staying at a country-house, and when Kenna still isn't satisfied with his answer, he seduces his way back into her good graces.

Bash asks his mother about the sacrifice practice. His mother used to be a Pagan, but left once they began to change their ideology. Because of her involvement, the pagans may even count Bash as one of them. She then proceeds to warn her son not to covet Francis' fiancée, because he needs to stay on good terms with his brother if he wishes to stay at court once Francis is King.

Let's team up.

The next day, Mary wakes up with a freshly severed stag's head hanging above her bed. She was likely drugged so as not to wake up during it. While the guards are removing the stag's head, Francis consoles Mary. When Bash appears, Francis takes him outside of them room and commands that he fix the situation by all means. Catherine walks by a few servants carrying a deer's head out of Mary's room, so she enters it and learns of what has happened. Mary convinces her to work together to ascertain the identity of the mole at court who drugged her, slipped into her room, and left a deer's head over her bed.

Kenna announces to her friends that she is now the King's mistress. The girls all have different reactions, with Aylee being curious as to how it all happened, Greer trying to be happy for Kenna, and Lola being cynical with how Henry is still so entwined with Diane. Lola points at the tiles around Henry's bed, which have Henry and Diane's initials on them.

Chosen - 22 - Mary n catherine

Don't be shy, come forward.

In the throne room, Mary and Catherine gather all servants. Mary announces what happened to her and pleads with them to come forward if they know anything. No one comes forward, in spite of being promised protection if they do. Catherine then hightens the stakes by threatening to burn down each of the servants' homes if they do not come forward by midnight.

Meanwhile, Kenna wants King Henry have the tiles removed. He instead offers to cover them up with tapestry, but that's not enough for Kenna. She concludes that if she matters to Henry enough, he will find a way to please her.

Bash uses his position and power to bribe a guard to take out a prisoner in the dungeon. He then takes the prisoner into The Blood Wood.

That night, the ladies are on the balcony. Kenna is lamenting about King Henry, but her complaining comes to an abrupt halt when the ladies bid her to look out of the balcony. Outside, Kenna sees her name in fireworks.

Chosen - 27 - Mary n Francis

Trouble in paradise.

That evening, Francis and Mary finally air out all their secrets, with Francis admitting to Mary to having seen her kissing Bash. He also believes his brother has sacrificed a human in the woods for Mary, an act of love that ignites a strong jealousy in Francis. Mary tries to explain herself, but Francis cuts her off every time.

In Catherine's chambers, a servant girl enters and claims she has information. Catherine pressures her to hurry up and say it.

"Contrary to public opinion, I do not relish destroying other people's homes."

The moment of realization.

The girl gestures at Catherine's guard and Catherine tells her guard, Robert, to stay outside, as she realises that the girl would like to share the information in private. The girl recounts how she saw a dishevelled man covered in blood the previous night, and the girl's description of the man seems to match Robert, the guard that Catherine just sent outside. He isn't standing outside her room anymore, so Catherine orders her guards to look for him.

In the Blood Wood, Bash pretends to string up the prisoner to lure one of the pagans in, in order to kill one of the pagans instead.

At the castle, a frustrated Henry goes to Diane's chambers and starts complaining about Kenna. Diane seduces him and the two start kissing in bed.

Sarah, Mary's maid, reveals herself to be one of the heretics, pulling a knife on her Queen and threatening to kill her as a warning to Bash to not disobey them in the future. Fortunately, Mary's guards enter just in time to stop Sarah from inflicting any harm.

While Bash is taking the prisoner back to the castle, the foolish man admits that he heard him fight with the pagan and knows Diane was once a pagan. Bash then kills him, in order to protect his mother's reputation.

Chosen - 44 - Sebastian Mary n Francis

Caught up in a love triangle.

In the morning, Bash returns to the castle to inform Francis and Mary that the debt is paid. Francis takes that opportunity to remind them that he and Mary are to be rulers, and that they can't allow feelings like anger and jealousy to cloud their judgement. He knows that the position he and Mary are in is an awkward one, so he decides that she is free to be with whoever she want in the meantime, as long as it's not Bash. He even goes as far as to threaten Bash's life should he disobey his order. Francis then rushes off to be with Olivia.

In the evening, Mary and the ladies-in-waiting are in Mary's chambers and Mary tells them that she begged the guards to give Sarah a quick and painless death, but they didn't comply, as Sarah and her accomplice are burned alive, prompting Mary and her ladies to realize that these royals are not be the people they thought they were.

In another room, Bash warns his mother that they aren't safe at the castle anymore, seeing as Francis threatened Bash's life earlier that day. Diane reminds him to heed his brother's warning about Mary, but Bash thinks of a different warning.

"The real warning is that there are people who matter more and people who matter less. Those who will be remembered and those who will be forgotten."
